Black women are often expected to be the pillars of strength in their families and communities, taking on multiple roles and responsibilities without seeking help or support. This phenomenon is often referred to as the “superwoman complex.” However, this expectation can lead to burnout and self-neglect, causing long-term damage to both physical and mental health.

Burnout is a state of emotional, mental, and physical exhaustion caused by prolonged stress, overwork, and lack of balance in life. For Black women, burnout can be exacerbated by systemic racism, sexism, and other forms of oppression. Some common causes of burnout in Black women include:
