<2>NHS Traps Doctors in Posts Without Prospects

<3>The Chronic Normalised Abuse of Locally Employed Doctors

The National Health Service (NHS) has been accused of perpetuating a culture of chronic normalised abuse against locally employed doctors (LEDs). A recent study by Wilkinson and colleagues sheds light on the scale and impact of this issue. < href='https://www.who.int/news-room/fact-sheets/detail/health-workforce' target='_blank'>WHO defines health workforce as “all individuals who are engaged in actions with the ultimate goal of enhancing health,” which includes doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.

The issue of LEDs in the NHS has a long history, dating back to the past when international medical graduates and doctors from ethnic minorities often worked as permanent senior house officers (SHOs) and permanent registrars in NHS hospitals. However, their qualifications, skills, and experience were rarely considered, and they were often stuck in these roles for their entire careers. < href='https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-021-01426-5' target='_blank'>Nature reports that this lack of career progression can lead to burnout and dissatisfaction among doctors.

In an attempt to reform
