Michael Woods Haslett was born at St Mary’s Hospital, Paddington, and spent his early years in London. He was evacuated to Montreal in 1940, returning to the UK in 1944. This experience would shape his life and instill in him a sense of resilience and adaptability. He won a scholarship to Winchester College and studied medicine at King’s College Cambridge. His academic prowess and dedication to his studies would serve him well in his future endeavors.

<3>Clinical Years and General Practice

He did his clinical years at the Middlesex Hospital, qualifying in 1957. This marked the beginning of his journey as a medical professional. He then did house jobs at the Middlesex and Ipswich hospitals and obstetrics and gynaecology at Manchester Royal Infirmary before starting in general practice in Poulton-le-Fylde in 1959. His years in general practice would be marked by a deep commitment to his patients and a passion for delivering high-quality care.

He met Isobel in 1953 while on holiday in Italy, and they married in 1959.
