Iowa State University’s gymnastics program was once a powerhouse in the sport, producing some of the best coaches and athletes in the country. However, after warnings from former coach K.J. Kindler about facility issues, the program has been permanently discontinued.

In 2003, K.J. Kindler, who is now the head coach at the University of Oklahoma, left Iowa State to take the head coaching job at the University of Arkansas. Before he left, Kindler warned the athletic department about the facility issues that were plaguing the program. At the time, the university’s gymnastics team was competing in a facility that was outdated and inadequate for the sport.

Despite Kindler’s warnings, the athletic department failed to address the facility issues, and the program continued to struggle. The team’s performance suffered, and the program’s reputation began to decline. In the years that followed, the program’s enrollment numbers began to dwindle, and the team’s budget was cut.
