Mahmoud expressed her concern about the infringement of doctors’ freedom of speech, citing the case of Ghassan Abu-Sitta, a British Palestinian plastic surgeon and humanitarian doctor.

<6>Ghassan Abu-Sitta, 57, faced allegations relating to an article he wrote in 2018 in a Lebanese newspaper. The article was said to have breached the General Medical Council’s (GMC) guidelines on speaking out on matters of public conscience. Mahmoud highlighted the unfairness in the current regulatory system, which she believes is stifling the ability of consultants to express their opinions.
